There is nothing more Tel Avivian than walking or pedaling through the slowly ascending streets of the first Hebrew city. Preferably while indulging in endless snacking and drinking.
Tel Aviv-Jaffa is like an open-air museum of the history of the Land of Israel. Through its architectural styles and stories, you can tell the entire grand narrative of this land. It’s a bit like “Forrest Gump” – it’s been part of every major historical event. From the 1921 riots, waves of immigration, the Declaration of Independence, terrorist attacks, mass protests, the assassination of a prime minister, to becoming a modern startup nation.
A full day’s walk that begins thousands of years ago in the ancient port city, weaving a pagan-Jewish-Christian-Muslim tapestry and passing through an eccentric American story, the first Jewish neighborhood in Jaffa, the first Hebrew city, and two German colonies that complete the picture. A day full of stories, spontaneous drinks, and gourmet snacks, a day that’s a celebration of passion and love for a city that sanctifies the present, celebrates the here and now, and strives with all its heart to be the New York of the Middle East – and along the way, without even realizing it, has become a city like no other, even across the ocean.
Duration: Full day
